Finally broke down and ordered the pump the other day. About $180 for a Cross brand pump that can handle the side load of being belt driven - most hydraulic pumps can't be belt driven because the bearings in them can't handle it. I am going to run it belt drive (B section cogged belt) from the crankshaft at about 2000 RPM (it is rated for up to 3600) and it will give me about 12 to 14 GPM at that speed. I'm having the machine shop build a pulley that mounts with a roll pin through the hole in the front of the crankshaft. Also ordered a relief valve for $28. I wanted so badly to drive the pump direct from the crankshaft, but that just can't be done without major modification to the front bolster casting, or building a whole new bolster. For a reservoir I am going to use the belly pump reservoir, to add capacity I am removing the pump and having a plate built with a tank extension on it. Built myself a cardboard template for the welding shop to follow when they build the real thing. With the extra room the pump took up and the extension I figure I can get an extra gallon in there to make it about a 2 1/2 gallon reservoir. The power steering is coming along too. I finally got some pictures of an installed torque motor on a Super H. Also found out there is a shim to line the pump up to the shaft for $65 - I'm going to try to line it up without that. To control heat I am going to run the return line from the PS torque motor to a tranny cooler mounted in front of the radiator, then back to the reservoir. Just thought I would keep ya up to date. I'm planning on getting everything finished up by the end of March, maybe sooner if I get the W-9 out of the heated garage.
