The alternator is probably alright even after the beating. Your problem most likey comes from the method the alternator is wired. I have to assume this is a GM unit with the small connector/plug on the side. In order to help I need to know how or what is connected at this plug. If you have nothing, go to an auto supply and buy a two wire connector for a couple of bucks that fit this and repost.
