I disagree with your polarizing suggestion, in fact it sounds dangerous.
I've polarized by using a wire to jump between BAT and GEN. In the instructions for the regulator for the Super M it specifically said NOT to ever jump BAT and F because it would fry the reg.
This of course assumes that the electrics on the 140 and Super M work mostly the same, but really how different could they be, they're both 6v.
