I've got a '47 H that I've been running non-detergent 30W in but, via the advice in one of the articles at this web site, I'm thinking about switching over to 15W-40 detergent. I haven't had the oil pan off yet and I thought I'd take this opportunity to get the sludge out. I'm imagining I'll take off the pan, clean out as much sludge from it as I can and, if possible, take off the screen and clean it up. After that I'll be cleaning whatever I can get to with solvent and then replacing the filter and filling it up with new oil. Can anyone tell me what else I should pay attention to? Is this a bad idea as it might dislodge particles that will get stuck elsewhere? Thanks for any help.
