Have what sounds like a transmission bearing noise and haven't torn into anything yet. Had a good friend tell me since it goes away in 5th it is probably related to the pilot bearing between the upper main shaft and driving shaft. Noise is present in all other gears including neutral whenever the clutch is released. I feel play in the forward countershaft bearing at the front of the transmission where the shaft extends through the clutch housing to drive the belly pump which is also on this tractor. The big question, can this front countershaft bearing be removed and replaced through the clutch housing or will the whole countershaft have to be taken out through the transmission and the bearing pressed off the countershaft? Just don't know how this bearing installs to the countershaft and its replacement procedure. Thanks for sharing any information relative to this problem.
