I have been told that when the IHC company was formed in 1902 by five other companies merging, there was an agreement that since the McCormick and Deering families had the majority of the assets in the merge, these names would be used until the last family member died, Mrs. Deering in 1937 and Mrs. McCormick in 1956. I have also been told that this story is a myth. I would also like to know the real reason.
