6 Volt Regulator on Farmall A

My farmall A has a 6 volt system. I currently have a 4 terminal 6 volt regulator on the generator. I think I may have installed the wrong regulator. This may have been causing some problems I was having with a dead short in my switch box. Every time I connect the load wire to the regulator, I get a 2-amp draw on the gauge. Should I put a 3 terminal 6 volt regulator in place of the other and rewire according to the diagram in the back of the operators manual? Or can I simple disconnect the load wire at the switch. MACE
