H 4 terminal reg install

Changing an "H" (6v positive ground system) from a cut-out to a 4 terminal voltage regulator. The instructions with the new regulator have no mention of what to connect to the "L" terminal of the regulator or what to do with the 1 ohm, 10 watt, wirewound resistor included in the kit. Want to be sure of connections here (especially for the resistor) before trying something and causing possible damage. Thanks for any help given. Ron
