I will assume that you were thorough in cleaning the carb? The crud can hide really good sometimes. Is the float level correct? Maybe the two carb halves are warped, and you are not getting a good seal, thus allowing a vacuum leak? A vacuum leak can also result with a poor carb to manifold gasket, or manifold to head gaskets. What about the fuel inlet fitting? There should be a fine mesh screen in there also that gets plugged up sometimes. One more thought--have you tried running it with gas tank cap removed?
