I have been trying to get this miss/popping resolved and haven't gained anything yet. I am looking for direction. The motor starts and idles pretty good in gas mode. Switches over to diesel good and idles pretty good. As you increase the throttle it starts popping more. The popping is accompanied by whitish blue smoke. The popping increases with less load and decreases a lot under load. I have good oil pressure.
Things I have done so far:
1. Rebuild injection pump and injectors. One injector needed a new nozzle. Thought this was going to take care of it - no such luck.
2. Compression check through spark plug holes showed the starting valves all working good. Compression was 130, 115, 120, 105
3. I adjusted the valves.
4. I put a dollar bill over the exhaust and it never gets pulled towards the exhaust.
5. I have tried the timing all over the place and it is now at 2 BTDC. Doesn't make any difference.
I am guessing the head needs to come off. I've never done a motor before. Can I do the head and rings and put it back together? How do I know about bearings and the crank? Looking for advice. I hope to get this running good and not have to open it back up. I might hobby farm with it someday.
