Long Distance Hauling Advice?

I bought a tractor long-distance and am looking for insights on how to evaluate potential haulers. Cost is one thing, but it's difficult to assess the reliability of a guy in a brief phone call or by e-mail.

Any thoughts?

I am thinking about using a guy in Vermont named Glenn trading as "Captain John" to haul from NH to WV. (Found him in Hemmings Motor News - he usually hauls cars.) Anyone have any experience with him?
