I have a 350 utility gas that was running fine and started to sputter. I shut it off. It would not start and after several attempts I burned out an already worn armeture in the starter. I had to move the tractor so I pulled it started and it started and ran fine, so I parked it. Replaced the starter and the new one locked up when I tried starting the tractor, so much so that I had to pry it loose with a bar. Now here is the stupid part. I tried to pull start it again and this time noticed a clunking and the sound of what I think was parts breaking in the area of where the tractor splits. I immediatly stopped the pulling and then noticed smoke pouring from the area of where the tractor splits or the ring gear area. Now my questions. What would have caused the tractor to sputter and not start the first time, or what would have caused the sound of or the actual breaking of parts in the tranny. What would have caused the starter so much stress as to not be able to turn over the motor. How do I check to see if the motor is frozen or if the tranny is truly all busted up without spliting the tractor in two. Can anyone offer advice or any suggestions on what happened or how to fix it. Thanks, Bill
