Downfall of IH/Farmall

I have a book, IH tractors, 1955-1985, and it has alot of good information. But it does'nt go into detail about the downfall of IH/Farmall. Just gives some dates and all, not any detail as to what happened. Can someone tell me how a company went from the largest producer of tractors in the world to nothing in a period of ten years or so? I am a diehard IH guy, and am curious as to what happened. Thanks for the help.
