1952 Farmall M - owned two years without problem. Started strong everytime until this time. Electic start, 12 volt system. Turned key stepped on the starter lever and got sizzle sound. Removed and cleaned all wiring (found wire from ignition to starter loose), found battery discharged. Installed another battery and it cranked, seemed to start, but then when I let off of the starter level after hearing the cylinders fire, it stops as if the coil wire was disconnected. Checked that and it is fine. One other thing is, not sure if it is called a starter or generator, the throw out bearing seems to spin and wine after I let off of the starter lever. It must be engaging the flywheel because I can hear the motor turn over and start to fire the cylinders. I took it apart and found nothing wrong except slightly worn teeth. Flywheel looks fine as well. What could be the problem and what else could I check? Also, on a lighter note, the oil filter housing leaks oil through the bolt on top of its housing. I read in a manual that there should be a gasket to go along with the filter, but none are included with the filter when I bought it. Thanks, Gary Morstadt

It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
