i have a 340 Utility with a 12 volt conversion. I have timed this tractor a number of times, I put new points and set to .020, new plugs(autolites) and plug wires. new distributor cap/rotor. the coil was still the same 6 volt as was on the tractor before, i added a ballasr resistor from napa. Tractor starts right up, sounds great, but under load or if you drive it begins to miss a bit, i have checked fuel flow and carb. everything seems great. HERES where things get a bit weird for me. I started tractor , put my ear up close to ditributor and coil area, and thought i heard a little snapping noise. I shut the lights off in the shop, and to my surprize you could see little sparks coming from coil end where coil wire goes into coil, also noticed little blue color coming from each of the spark plug wires where rubber boot goes over spark plug.... what is going on here,Bad coil , maybe bad ballast resistor, im not sure what to do here... thanks for any ideas.
