To me there is a close parallel between IH and Sears. Both where HUGE businesses that dominated their competition for decades and then went down the toilet. Poor upper management drove both companies into the ground.
It has amazed me that no one at Sears ever though of how their catalogue business would have easily transitioned into an online business. Think about it. Sears was giving people a way to shop from their own home 75 years before the internet was even thought of. That is basically what we do now when we shop online.
I rarely go a week without ordering some thing online. In repairing many types/brands of equipment you can save serious money shopping around.
Just yesterday I found some new OEM electric over hydraulic valves for half what OEM price was. The outfit is a surplus inventory seller. I do not mean a China made copy either I mean the exact OEM part number stamped on the side of the valves. They are $123 each and I got two for $90 delivered to my door step.
