Snapped Stud on Block

After soaking the cylinder head studs in penetrating oil for weeks on my Regular, I thought I could put a little more strength on one of them to loosen it. I ended up snapping it about 1/8" above the block. Any advice on removing it? I thought of using an easy out, but if that snapped I would be out of luck. I'm thinking of drilling out the center with succesively larger drill bits until I was close to the threads; then I would try to break the rest of it out. Is there usually space below the stud? If I drilled it out I could pour in penetrating oil and let it sit for a LONG time. Thank you.
