Stan, start by making a jumper wire. With the tractor running, attach one end of your wire to the F terminal on the generator and the other to a good ground (use the grounded side of the battery)that way you're in a position to read your gauge. If the gauge jumps to the charge side, the problem is with the regulator. If it doesn't, the problem may still be the regulator. If nothing happens, remove the cover from the regulator. With your ground wire still in place, close the contact points on the solonoid that are the hot ones. If the contacts stay closed and the guage does not move to charge, you have a problem with the generator. If things move like they should, you may be able to adjust the field circuit solonoid in the reg or maybe the reg isn't grounded or maybe the reg is shot.
