I just finished "rebuilding" a number of bushings from the u-joints from a driveshaft on a little Avery model A because the bushing size was not standard, the bushings were cup bushings with a groove machined in, and lastly because I was too cheap to go to a machine shop and get some made (couldn't even consider it). They seem to work fine and although they're not as good as new ones, well they'll probably last another 55 years and then I won't have to worry about them. Got me thinking, have you ever done any strange repairs without it costing you anything? I even replaced a ring set on one piston of a tractor engine once using Volkswagen rings and it cost me 5 bucks. Seemed to work well and the tractor is still working. I'm sure in Poland or other parts of the world they don't always run down to the local parts depot to get stuff do they? What kinds of things have you done that might be worth a laugh or two?
