You guys beat us city folks up often enough so I thought I would give you a reason or two why we live here. I needed a front tire for my tractor yesterday. Oddball size. I called West Side tire and they had one in stock. It was cheaper than I had found them online. Drove about 23 mi to get it. I also needed a new bearing and race for the wheel so on my way back I drove into north Minneapolis to Tull Bearing and they had both parts in stock. Two blocks away from Tull is Coremark Metals where I bought a 5 in long chunk of 3 in aluminum round so I could make a driver for the race I'd just bought. Got lucky and found it in the bins of small stuff so no cutting charge. I had also done some online looking for .375 female spade connectors and the local Advance Auto about a mile from here has them in stock so I swung by there on my way home. Put 61 miles on the on the Chevy. And spent too much. But you always do with a tractor. Start to finish I was gone just over 2 hours and had all of that loot In Hand. That fast! If it was hydraulic stuff or 3 phase stuff, modern or vintage plumbing, commercial, industrial, big box, welding, specialty tools or lumber I could have hit as many of those types as well or any of a miriad of auto, truck, boat, rigging, paint, hobby, fabric and hunting places as well. And of course there's the resturaunts. And lots of supermarkets, doctors, colleges and universities and libraries, plus more than a few other things I could list. But this place is about tractors. It is a lot easier to fix tractors here in the city. I could have ordered most of this stuff on line. And waited a week. Or more. But I didn't have to wait because it's all right here. Right here, Right now. That is why people live in the city

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
