Possible voltage problem w/coil w/res + res. wire in harness

Just read post on 400 that would not start put out there by Steve and the responses and possible solution. I have turned my tractor almost upside down to find cause of weak spark and plug fouling problem. I have a 12 volt coil w/ resistor built in and the tractor manual says I have a 2-ohm wire in-line between the switch and the coil. Does that mean that I need to have a coil without resistor built in? Please advise as this has been a really sticky problem for a long time. Thanks.
