My M won't move!

In 1st, 2nd, & 3rd gears, when I let out the clutch, the Engine bogs down and the tractor won't move. However, if I put it in neutral, it will run in road gear. The service center I spoke with said the gear shift is worn. O.K., getting it out and adding to it is no problem, but how do I know the correct positions of the gears befor I put the shifter back in?
