My bro in Vermont has recently started raising alpacas on a small farm in Vermont. I seem to have been hired as the machinery consultant, mechanic, and transport specialist.. Anyway, he has to clean the pens daily, and has started to produce a pretty good pile of dirty straw and hay. He seems to have no problem getting it onto his garden plot, but the disc and plow get clogged up trying to plow it all under. We've tried discing, then plowing, plowing, then discing, and so far no method is good. I don't know if he ever actually planted anything this year.... I am thinking he needs to compost this waste in a couple of bins, with maybe some dirt mixed in, but haven't gotten the 600 and loader up there for him to start doing that. He does also have a manure lagoon left over from the beef operation that was there before him. Typical clay and shale vermont soil, except for the garden. That is clay, shale, and straw!BTW he does not want to use a manure spreader over the fields where the animals graze, as then the stuff would get into their fleeces.. So, any of you animal waste removal experts out there got any ideas?
