Well let me put it to ya this way , after a melt down of a fresh engine and i mean melt down like China syndrome And after seeing the results of said melt down and knowing that this melt down was from fuel related problems we did a lab testing of the gas . And lots of reading and lots of talking to older I H mechanics and with what i know from building engines for the drag strip and the lab report on the gas . Then taking into the time frame that the 706 or for that matter any high rev gas engine made from 58 on up gas at the pumps back then was a much higher octane then of today. In the org. owner manual it states that the lowest octane gas that is to be used is 93 .Now as for the OCTANE boosters , here again we had and independent lab check this also and they told us it will do nothing . The use of low ash oil will stop the valve burning dead in it's tracks. I have two 706 gassers running each and everyday and as long as we play the game with them they do what they were made for and that is work. Allen says that ya need a big bank roll to run them , not really , no more then working a diesel. If we run the one 706 on the plow pulling 4x16 it will burn a tank of fuel in a full day on the plow. so if we run the 1066 all day pulling one more bottom it will burn a tank of fuel in a day , Now the 1066 will get across more acres in a day mainly because it is draging one more bottom and it is a lot more power but it burns more fuel as the the tank on the 10 is around 50-55 gal, where the 706 is what 30-35 gal.
