Let me start by saying that I haven't had a speeding ticket in about 6 or 7 years. Now I'm talking about hyways here, not school or play grounds or even rurall areas where I always try to stay at or below the limit. This is on a double wide divided hyway. US equivilant would probabley be an Interstate. I am converting kilometers to miles as most of you are more familiar with that, so hopefully I get # right (5 MPH = 8 KPH) or (1 MPH = 1.6 KPH). I'm not a saint and I normally will set my cruize control at about 5 MPH above legal limit and this seems to be well within what the police officers in this neck of the woods think is acceptable since I've never been ticketed by a officer at this speed. I some times pass others and am also passed by some. Well the other day I had a doctors apointment in the city, 3 hr drive each way. On the way home I was running a little late as I had another engagment back home and I figured I needed to make up some time. I do not have a radar detector and don't even know if they would be effective with todays technolagy and I guess that's my first question. Do any of you own and use a detector and find that it is affective in saving your butt when speeding. Anyway's what I did was wait for a driver to pass me and then stayed about a 1/2 mile (Within sight) behind him matching his speed and figuring that if there was radar ahead he would be pulled over and I should be OK. Well this guy was in a big hurry and exceeding the posted limit by 23 to 28 MPH. Over a 3rd of the limit faster. Can't imagine an officer would have over looked this excessive speed if he had clocked it. I will say that I didn't really at any time feel in danger of losing controll. Traffic was very thin and we didn't pass many vechicles other than oncoming. (Remember divided hyway with verry wide mediam) so I assume most traffic was also moving right along. So second question is do any of you speed and if so what do you think is safe and how strict are police in your area on inforcement of the posted limit. Know I will probably get my a$$ chewed off here by some and that's fine. Not promotting speeding here I did what I did and relize concequences of excessive speed can be deadly. Just wondering if my normal speed is ABNORMAL. Am I that old guy everyone else is cussing out for going to slow. If your gonna cuss at me at least try to keep it civil. Thanks Rocko.

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
